Cacao bean: Chuncho Urusayhua

Ancient tradition meets incomparable quality: From remote tropical forests in the heart of Peru, the unique cacao of the Chuncho variety finds its way to our manufactory. Discovered nowhere else in the world to date, this bean, with its light color, is one of the mighty and wise great-grandmothers of cacao. Genetically proven, Chuncho is the oldest cacao variety on this planet. Not to mention the taste: Chuncho is known for its floral, fruity, and nutty notes and is very low in acidity and hardly bitter. My visit to the nature-loving farmers around Quillabamba, Peru, still inspires me today.

Cacao Bean: Piura Blanco

From remote dry forests in northern Peru, the unique bean of the Piura Blanco variety finds its way to our manufactory, irrigated only by raging Andean rivers and cultivated by small farmers of the organic cooperative Norandino.

Discovered nowhere else in the world so far, this award-winning albino cacao is considered one of the mighty and wise great-grandmothers of cacao. Not to mention the taste. Piura Blanco cacao is praised for its outstanding aromas of red berries and pecan nut, as well as its high proportion of white beans.

Since my visit to the dry forests of the Piura Valley in northern Peru, I have been amazed by the finesse and intensity of this special cacao.

Häufige Fragen zum Kakao
  1. What makes your cacao "ceremonial"?
Our cacao is 100% single-origin, gently processed, and sourced directly from cooperatives personally selected by Mischa. It is not defatted or industrially processed – this preserves its natural power and depth.
  2. How do I prepare ceremonial cacao?
Roughly chop the cacao and heat it with hot water or plant-based milk to 60–70 °C (do not boil), then blend or froth. For a ceremony, we recommend 25–30g per serving; for everyday use, less is fine.
  3. What are the effects of ceremonial cacao?
It is heart-opening, mood-lifting, relaxing, and at the same time invigorating – without the nervousness associated with coffee. Wonderful for meditation, creativity, or rituals, but also for starting the day.
  4. Can I drink it every day?
Yes. Many customers integrate it as a morning ritual or coffee substitute. You can start with smaller amounts (5–10g) and increase as needed.
  5. How long does one pack last?
That depends on the dosage: for weekly ceremonies, a 500g pack often lasts several months. For everyday use, there are smaller sizes or sample packs.
  6. Is the cacao contaminated with cadmium?
Learn everything about cadmium in cacao in our guide – including transparency regarding the lab values of our varieties and important safety information for your daily enjoyment: Is cacao contaminated with cadmium?

What about cadmium in cocoa?

Our cocoas comply with the EU guidelines for cocoa imports. They are considered safe and harmless for daily consumption.

How long does the cocoa last – and how do I store it?

Only rarely does cocoa stay in our warehouse for longer than 2-3 weeks. This means your package is always fresh and crisp.

Provided the cocoa is not heated above room temperature or exposed to moisture, it can be stored for up to two years without problems.

What to consider in hot weather?

Above 25°C ambient temperature, there is a risk that the cocoa may melt. We recommend storing it in a cool place immediately after delivery in warm weather. Please note: Melted cocoa does not lose quality, but its appearance changes.
