Chuncho Kakao: Eine Reise zum Ursprung des zeremoniellen Kakaos

Chuncho cacao is not only the oldest known cacao variety in the world, but also a true symbol of authenticity, sustainability, and incomparable quality. Cultivated in Quillabamba, Peru, this cacao reflects the region’s vibrant and tradition-steeped cacao culture. With its mild, floral-fruity flavor and the highest cocoa butter content, Chuncho cacao delights connoisseurs worldwide – and is simultaneously an essential component of modern cacao ceremonies and rituals.

An emotional journey to the roots

Mischa Levit, founder of Kakao Mischa, invites you to discover the moving story of Chuncho cacao in his new documentary. Accompanied by a camera crew, he visited Quillabamba to experience firsthand the oldest cacao trees in the world (some over 200 years old), sustainable farming methods, and the people who work with dedication on this natural wonder. “Chuncho cacao is more than just a product – it connects tradition and modernity, pleasure and spirituality,” says Mischa.

What makes Chuncho cacao so special?

  • Exclusivity: Chuncho cacao is considered the “grandmother of all cacao varieties” – a genetically verifiable natural wonder.

  • Exceptional flavor: Floral-fruity aromas with a delicate natural sweetness and a high cocoa butter content, perfect for ceremonial preparations.

  • Sustainability & community: The cultivation supports local farming families and promotes sustainable agricultural practices.

The cultural and spiritual significance of Chuncho cacao

Chuncho cacao is valued not only as a luxury food item but also for its role in traditional and modern mindfulness rituals. The theobromine contained in the cacao is proven to support circulation and provides an invigorating feeling often described as a “heart opening.” This effect makes Chuncho cacao a special companion for moments of reflection and inner connection. “Consuming Chuncho cacao connects us with the earth and with ourselves,” explains Mischa. “It is a bridge between the rich tradition of Peru and our search for spirituality and mindfulness in the modern world.”

Chuncho cacao in a new look

Kakao Mischa is setting new standards in the packaging of high-quality Chuncho cacao. With the new line, developed in collaboration with packaging specialist Karl Knauer, the company combines sustainability and luxurious design. The innovative “Crush Cacao” cardboard material consists of up to 15% shells from the Chuncho cacao beans – a byproduct of chocolate production – and dispenses with the usual PE coating. Instead, an environmentally friendly, food-safe coating ensures optimal protection and the highest hygiene requirements.

“From cultivation to harvest to packaging, we at Kakao Mischa ensure sustainability and appreciation along the entire production chain,” explains Mischa Levit. The new packaging line for Chuncho cacao combines sensuality and responsibility – a true statement for conscious enjoyment.
